Move your instructions between Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot and Windsurf.

1. Paste your instructions

Frontmatter at the top is read and removed. Nothing leaves your browser.
Example: **/*.py. Separate several patterns with commas. Empty becomes ** (every file).

2. Your converted file

    All formats at a glance

Every row uses your current options. Pick View to open that format above.

    How to use it

    1. Paste the instructions file you already have, or keep the sample to see how it works.
    2. Choose the format you want, using the dropdown or the quick buttons.
    3. Fill in any extra fields the target needs, such as file patterns for a Cursor rule.
    4. Read the notes list for anything that will not carry over, then copy or download the result.
    5. Save it at the location shown under the output.

    The formats, explained

    • CLAUDE.md: the memory file Claude Code reads at the start of a session. It lives in the project root or in .claude/CLAUDE.md, and it can import other files with @path/to/file.
    • AGENTS.md: a plain markdown file in the repo root that many coding tools read, including Codex, Jules and Cursor.
    • .cursorrules: the older single-file Cursor format. It still works, but Cursor now prefers project rules.
    • Cursor project rules: files in .cursor/rules/ ending in .mdc, with a small header that says when the rule applies.
    • GitHub Copilot: .github/copilot-instructions.md applies to the whole repo and has no header. Files in .github/instructions/ ending in .instructions.md apply only to files that match their applyTo pattern.
    • Windsurf: the older .windsurfrules file in the root, or newer files in .windsurf/rules/. Each rule file has a limit of 6,000 characters.

Here is what a Cursor project rule looks like:

    ---
description: TypeScript conventions for this repo
    globs: src/**/*.ts,src/**/*.tsx
    alwaysApply: false
    ---

    - Use strict types and avoid any.
    - Prefer named exports.

    And a Copilot path-specific file:

    ---
    applyTo: "**/*.py"
    ---

    - Follow PEP 8 and add type hints.

    FAQ

Will my @imports from CLAUDE.md still work in other tools?

No. The @path/to/file syntax is a Claude Code feature. Other tools show it as plain text. The tool lists every import it finds so you can paste the contents in or keep that file for Claude Code only.

What does the tool change in my text?

It removes any frontmatter, keeps the markdown body as it is, and adds the header the target format needs. If you tick the wording option it also swaps tool names for "the AI assistant". Text inside code blocks is never touched.

Which format should I pick if I use several tools?

AGENTS.md is the safest shared choice because many tools read it. Keep tool-specific files only for the tools that need extra settings, such as Cursor globs.

Why does the tool warn about length?

Windsurf rule files have a limit of 6,000 characters, so longer files should be split. Cursor suggests keeping a rule short and focused, and every instruction file uses up some of the model's context.

    Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
